Justin Gatlin 100m medal ceremony moved amid fears of London crowd backlash

governing body has denied that the decision to remove the World
Championships 100m medal ceremony from its prime time slot tonight is
related to fears over the reception that will be given to shock winner Justin Gatlin.
The American, who has twice been banned for doping offences, had been
due to receive his gold medal at 8pm – an hour after the start of
Sunday’s evening session – but a late switch saw it move to a pre-show
time of 6.50pm.
Gatlin’s unexpected victory over
Usain Bolt was greeted with boos around the London Stadium on Saturday
night and there are widespread fears that it will be a similar scene
when he takes his place on the podium.
